Winter boat storage includes tarp and other maintenance

Winter car storage is one of the many things consumers may have on their minds this time of year, while boat owners may also be getting their craft ready.

Online used car dealership One Stop Motors recently put out a list of tips regarding winter boat storage, including filing the fuel tank with gas and a stabilizer. Oil should also be changed, and if the craft will be stored outside, batteries should be disconnected.

Even if a unit will be stored indoors, One Stop suggests putting a tarp over it. Doing so will help prevent dust from building up, while boats kept outside will be better able to resist the elements.

The boat should be free of any debris or dirt, which can be done by power-washing its body. Furthermore, an anti-corrosion application should be used.

"Fix any kind of damage to the exterior before placing it into the storage area," the car seller said. "The colder months tend to widen or expand any crack significantly."

Cars stored for winter will also benefit from some prep work, and those that are still going to be on the road should be given a check by a mechanic.
